The Port is in!

The procedure went very smoothly, total of 4 hours at the hospital. My sister stayed with me and Asha dropped by for a chat. My shoulder is a bit sore, but more of a muscle ache. Probably the drugs are still working as I feel really good!

It's purple. Not that you can see it since its all inside me now, but it's purple.

The nurse was kind enough to bring me a much-needed coffee as soon as I got to recovery.

And hey, for you newbies that don't know how to post, I'll give you some instructions tomorrow. Have a good night!
Beth.

  1. What great news ... it went well ... and yes ... that would be first request ... coffee.

    Hope the soreness is minimal.

  2. I'm glad it all went well! I remember being so scared as I lay there waiting for that procedure!!!! Then, I woke up and it was all over. I didn't get coffee ---- just orange juice and a danish!!! Mine was sore for a few days, but bearable!

I'm just glad that another hurdle is over for you!

  3. I'm actually quite impressed that in the year of purple, Beth's port is so fashion-conscious. I'm sure that's a good sign.

  4. I always thought ports were cute, until I got my own. It wouldn't go in and what should have been a 1/2 hour procedure max ended up taking 3 hours. I didn't get coffee when I woke up. I just cried and cried for another hour because they wouldn't let me see my husband. Turns out my veins were being contrary and the surgeon had to run the tubing into my neck.

So I had whiplash for a week, swollen eyes from being a drama queen, and a week delay to the start of my chemo because the stupid purple port hurt so bad.

I'm so glad it went well for you. I hold my breath everytime someone gets a port because what should be routine isn't always routine. Beth, remember to ask the oncologists for the lidocaine numbing agent to put on the port before treatment. Goop the stuff on, don't rub it in and slap on a plastic bandage about an hour before chemo. The poking for the IV for chemo will be a breeze. If they look at you blankly, please ask someone else.

    Live and learn, right?

So glad you're doing ok :)
