Radiation #9

I am off to radiation #9 today (out of 20). Still doing okay, its going pretty quickly. And I got the call for my appointment to get my port out!! Oct 30th (just in time to be out for my birthday!)

Anyone have anything to say about getting that port-a-cath taken out? It sounds pretty simple - in the doctor's office, local freezing, about a 15-minute procedure. Any after effects?

Have a great week everyone!

p.s. this picture shows where the port is (surgically placed under the skin allowing direct access to a large vein near the heart for chemo).

  1. Oh Beth! Congratulations on getting that port out! I had mine removed while under MAC anesthesia, which means that I was asleep and I didn't remember any of it. It will feel a bit funny NOT having it in place any longer, but I was SO glad when it was FINALLY out of there, after a year! I felt normal, again! No more bump under my skin that used to hurt when my daughter hugged me and I could feel it pressing against my chest wall.

Good for you! Celebrate the day after it's out! I did! :)

  3. Wow, it's been a while since I visited the blog. Congratulations on this milestone and I will continue to send positive thoughts and energy your way. BTW, I did the exact same thing when I got my braces off at 15! hehe.
Keep the pot coming and take care.

  4. Hi Beth Strange but I have decided to leave my port in for a while longer. I don't think that I am ready to let go of that last segment of treatment.

My Dr told me that it is very common to feel this way. It almost becomes your security..
I am just finally going for my markers this week...After hospital delays I'd like this to be over Are you taking Tamoxifen too?
